About The Symposium

Venues

Norwich University

The Colby Symposium was founded at Norwich University in 1996. Norwich continues to sponsor the three-day residency every April.

Founded in 1819, Norwich University is the nation’s oldest private military college and the birthplace of ROTC. Today, Norwich combines a Corps of Cadets with a progressive civilian student body to provide one of the best educations in the nation. Visit Norwich University for more information.

The National Press Club

In 1998, the Colby Sumposium broadened it’s offering to the nation’s capital by conducting a panel discussion at the National Press Club. Continuing each winter, the Symposium and the Press Club’s Eric Friedheim Library enjoy a close relationship. The 2003 event was broadcast on C-Span Book TV.

The Pritzker Military Library

In the Fall of 2002, the Colby Symposium headquarters moved to The Pritzker Military Library in Chicago and began a partnership with the Union League Club of Chicago Author’s Group to co-produce programs at the Club.

Lewis Sorley moderates the panel discussion, Uncommon Valor: Ethical Lessons in Military Literature.
